Stage2 are proud to be presenting two exciting options for this year’s Summer Schools, running from 19th – 23rd August 2024, 10am-5pm each day at Queensbridge School, B13 8QB.

The main Summer Schools are listed below – please use the toggle bars to explore the different options. This is a ‘pick and mix’ week, which means you can choose only the days you want to do. It’s £25 per day, or £100 for the whole week.

Acting (Hello!)

Our brand-new Performances and Projects Manager will take the first day – all her favourite games and exercises she has gathered on her way – from her time in Stage2, to running her own company, to her time directing in London, to her previous jobs and projects – a great mix of activities for all ages!

Making

Back by extremely popular demand, Emma-Jo from the Stage2 Board (and an experienced arts and drama practitioner) will bring another of her crazy making days, where you often leave with more paint on your faces than on the canvas. People have begged for a repeat since last year’s day finished – so we are delighted to oblige! (Remember to wear old clothes for this one…)

Mime

In a big and exciting first for Stage2 we finally bow to frequent requests and even more frequent questions, and bring you a mime specialist from the acclaimed inclusive theatre company (opentheatre.co.uk) to teach you loads of basics – hints, tips and tricks as she explores all kinds of non-verbal communication.

Puppetry

A very happy welcome back to our former Artistic Director Alex Butler who will deliver one of his acclaimed puppetry workshops, teaching you how to bring the inanimate to life in fun and creative ways. Be sure to bring bags full of imagination and an odd sock (that you don’t need anymore!).

Acting (Games!)

Two of our lovely Young Leaders, Joel and Lauren, are going to be delivering a final day full of acting games, music and fun! Join them as they welcome new people to Stage2 whilst also saying farewell (for now…!)

Stage Combat

For 14 – 18 year olds only. 9.30am – 5pm each day (+ exam Saturday 24th August am – local shared on booking).

An extremely rare opportunity to study a specialised technique in theatre, designed to create the illusion of physical combat without causing harm to the performers. It is employed in theatre, cinema and television, and is closely related to the practice of stunts. You will learn a huge amount and have fun along the way!

Roger Bartlett is a Master Teacher, Examiner and ex-President of the BASSC, the UK’s leading provider of stage-combat training. He has taught at events and workshops throughout the world and is a guest Tutor at several British Drama Schools. He also works internationally as a Fight Director mainly for films, and is the author of the definitive text Stage Combat: Unarmed, published by Nick Hern Books.

You must attend every day as this is a formal qualification with a set requirement of tutored time and you will be working in a pair on short, scripted scenes incorporating different techniques.

Fee for the whole week is £320 (all inclusive of resources, weapon hire, tuition and exam fee). Places are limited to a maximum 14 so secure yours asap with a deposit of £20. If you are new to Stage2, you must email roni.mevorach@stage2.org before booking to ensure this is a suitable option for your child.

At Stage2, it is very important to us that finance isn’t a barrier for young people to access the Arts. That is why we have a fully functional Subsidy Fund, where people can claim full or part subsidies for Stage2 activities. For more information about this, please visit the Subsidy Page and/or email liz.light@stage2.org.
