What’s on Offer?

Stage2 is Birmingham’s busiest Youth Theatre, offering performance opportunities in major city-centre venues and international festivals, for young people across the West Midlands. We are one of the only open-access, integrated youth theatre’s in the country, with a designated subsidy fund to support families from financially challenged backgrounds – we have never turned a young person away! As a registered charity, we are committed to the welfare and betterment of the experiences of young people, including world-class Qualification tuition (100% Pass Rate), Drama School Audition support, Technical and Backstage Training and more.

Productions, Performances & Projects

Stage2 has been putting young people on-stage for over 30 years. We offer performance opportunities throughout the year in city-centre venues – alongside informal, varied Sunday workshops for young people to develop skills & confidences.

Our productions vary from classic texts to contemporary & devised pieces, as well as festival-style performance ventures where the young people of Stage2 take the helm. We’ve even worked on a World Premiere or two! The best part about it is that anyone can get involved without an audition and our shows consistently reach critical acclaim from audiences and press alike!

Backstage & Offstage Skills

Stage2 isn’t just for performers! We provide extensive training in all aspects of the Theatre and are one of the only youth groups that actively allows our young members to operate on-their-own in theatres!

Places for this are extremely limited and require you to have at least a term’s worth of attendance under your belt before you can apply. Why not email us for more information?

Attitude & Professionalism

Getting involved in Stage2 teaches young people to have a positive attitude, a sense of pride and self-esteem, and achieve their maximum potential  in everything they do.

Workshops

General Drama

General Drama is an informal workshop in the morning for members who can’t commit to a show or are interested in getting to know people, learning varied skills and playing. Each Term has a different focus (Physical Theatre/Creative Writing etc.) with each week being tailored around a specific skill.

Stage 1

Stage1 is our group for 7-10 year olds that has been relaunched for Autumn 2022. This is a friendly group, where members mix, learn and have lots of fun in a secure environment with other enthusiastic and willing members. Members participate in fun games, drama exercises and creative play every Saturday afternoon!

Masterclasses

Each year, Stage2 endeavours to provide at least Masterclass, often by leading Industry Professionals on a specific skill that is relevant to the term and levels of interest in the group.

Work Experience

Stage2 is a charity that is dedicated to the welfare, education and development of young people. We believe that every young person should have access to the Arts and all of the valuable skills and experiences there-in.

Whether it’s DofE voluntary work, school placement time, or gaining practical experience leading groups, Stage2 provides individually tailored tuition in professional environments.

LAMDA & Qualifications

LAMDA

Stage2 offers LAMDA tuition in Acting, Choral Speaking, Musical Theatre, Shakespeare, Mime, Verse & Prose and Devising. We are proud to claim a 100% pass rate with all students and our tuition is widely regarded as the best in the world (or so LAMDA have told us!).

The tuition is carried out in the week and follows a 10 lesson structure, including a public showcase and an exam.

For prices and more information visit our LAMDA Page.

Higher Education

Stage2 has a string of successful Alumni that we have personally helped on their pathway into further education.

In the Autumn Term (when students are turning their attention towards UCAS) we hold a Meeting to discuss options, plans, the difference between courses and then an opportunity to ask questions. All Staff at Stage2 are well versed in the proceedings of Higher Education and will help in Audition Prep and Provisional Statement writing.

The Young Leadership Scheme

After the success of our previous Trainee Tutor and Mentor Schemes, last September, Stage2 launched a brand new Young Leadership Scheme, offering flexible work experience and leadership opportunities to our members.

The Young Leaders not only help with the running of Stage2, but also specifically help to ensure that all members are included and understand all of the exciting opportunities available to them.

Inclusion & Open Access

We are an open-access group with skilled staff to support any young person, regardless of background or ability. We are the only youth theatre with a Subsidy Fund to support financially challenged families.
