Stage2 is delighted to announce our latest production – a classic set-text that tells the story of a group of school kids, abandoned on a deserted island, who attempt to create a system of rules. But, without any adult civilising influence, any sense of control starts to vanish. Featuring a diverse Cast and Crew of almost 60 young people between the ages of 9-19, Lord of the Flies is set to be a thrilling spectacle that presents the transition from a fun adventure to a fight for survival.
This performance follows on from a very successful show of Lighting The Way from Stage2 in December, a collection of short plays all centred around the theme of climate change. Since that show, Stage2 have even been working with Birmingham City Council to start a programme of free community theatre workshops around the theme of Climate Change, and are hoping to engage around one hundred young people in this. Lighting the Way was the second show since the post-pandemic return to theatre for this staple of the Birmingham Arts scene, after producing a five-star Double-Bill last Summer, under the new direction of ex-member Rosie Nisbet. Stage2 is well and truly back, and committed to serving Birmingham’s next generation of young actors.
“…it is as if they have never been away with the same enthusiasm, same flair, same confidence, and many of the same faces… Two plays with unashamedly non-partisan political undertones, but then again if youngsters can’t engage with politics who can?”

After the success of the last shows, Stage2 has decided to perform its own take on William Golding’s classic, Lord of the flies, adapted by Nigel Williams. Lord of the flies is a play following school children who attempt to survive on a deserted island with the freedom to do whatever they like – a situation which seems like great fun that rapidly becomes very dangerous. Stage2’s version of this production brings a contemporary twist, with a huge mixed-gender cast using elements of Physical Theatre and Drum & Bass Music to bring the classic tale to life for a modern audience.
“What are we? Humans? Or animals? Or savages?”
