Information: Hi, I’m Colin and I currently run Stage1 of Stage2.

Here at Stage1 we like to create a fun environment where we play games and learn some acting skills along the way. You’ll make friends here very quickly and if you are joining for the first time you also get assigned your own Mentor Buddy – someone who will check in with you as the term progresses to make sure you’re happy and having fun.

We have a whole range of games that are big favourites with everyone: Park Bench, Freeze, Blob and Dungeon-Keeper are just a few. We love it when people bring games they’ve played at school or with their friends that we’ve not heard of...have you got any???

Our number one rule at Stage2 is that “no-one is ever left out” and we take that as our main guide at Stage1. We want everyone to be nice to each other, to look out for everyone else and generally have a lovely time playing and learning.

Having asked everyone what they liked about Stage1, it’s clear that four things immediately jump out: everyone is NICE here; you make new friends; you play great games; you learn bits about acting. That is pretty much what we aim for! As a result, children should be happier and their confidence should grow!

But don’t take my word for it...here are a few things our current members (aged between 7 and 10) think about Stage1 when asked “What do you like about Stage1?”...

QUOTES from happy and excited Stage1 members!!!!

Jack: “Stage1 is good to come to because you play good games and meet lots of new people”

Zen: “I like Stage1 because it has heaps of games and I have lots of friends and you can run around!”

Jessica: “I like Stage1 because you get to make new friends and learn new games”

Roni: “I like acting, you get to make new friends and get to be in plays! I was in a play called Twelfth Night and it was really good – I was an urchin.”

Taine: “I like people here! They are nice people!”

James: “I like the acting games because they’re educational and I got little tips about acting when I did the play (Twelfth Night)”

Alice: I LOVE Stage1! I hopefully one day will go into Stage”. I am doing a LAMDA exam. I like the acting. I joined Autumn 2008. I like the plays and was an urchin in Twelfth Night.”

Ella: “It’s so fun and you make new friends and you learn in the games but it’s not like school learning.”

Tai-Tai: “I enjoy being in Stage1 because of the really fun games, the nice Mentors and the very nice people.”

Lauren: “You can win prizes in the games sometimes and you learn things in the acting games”

Sophie G: I Like Stage1 because you make new friends and also play games and everyone is nice”

Lily: “I like the games because I learn and I have fun at the same time and I like acting and I make new friends.”

Khya: “I enjoy the games (especially the Glowing Ball game!) and I learn how you have to try things and not just give up before you start. And don’t be shy.”

Martha: I love being in Stage1 because I enjoy playing games and most of all playing acting games. I make new friends and it helps me build my confidence.”

Alexander W: I think Stage1 is great and exciting in the games and acting is great and fun. I recommend it!”

Indya: “The thing I enjoy about Stage1 is the games – they are fun, but you learn at the same time. I like making new friends, I love the teacher, all the plays are really fun and I love acting.”

Priya: “Hi, my name is Priya and I am 8 years old. I joined Stage1 because I don’t have many friends in school. I love to act and I love Stage1 because everybody is very nice and I like the games.”

Maya: “I enjoy Stage1 because of the games – they’re not just games, they’re acting ones at the same time.”

Tamsin: “I like Stage1 because of the tutors, they are really nice.”

Shona: “Since I’ve come to Stage1 I’ve enjoyed it and made lots of friends and played acting games and normal games and I get to know people much better each time I come!”

Joe: “I like the games and the acting in Stage1. All the people in Stage1 are really nice.”

Miles: “I love Stage1, the games, the acting, knowing new people, learning things and stuff about acting.”

Charlotte: “I like Stage1 because you make new friends and you get to play lots of really good games.”

Eleanor: “I like Stage1 because everybody’s really friendly and you get to make lots of new friends.”

Reuel: “I really like the Park Bench game because there’s acting in it. I liked playing the villain in the acting scene game too.”

Ciara: “You get to play nice games and you get to make more friends.”

If you’re aged 7 or 8 then Stage1 is for you!!! If you’re aged 9 or 10, then you’re very lucky indeed as you can Stage2 or Stage1...or both!!! So what’s stopping you?

Join us now and I’ll see you next term!

Stage2 demonstrate just how powerfully youth theatre can engage in the big issues of life and love and indeed bring a dimension that adult theatre may struggle to offer.
