I first heard about Stage2 through my sister, because even though she wasn’t a member, one of her friends was. Her friend was apparently always talking about how good Stage2 was, and positively promoting its shows. So I thought that if someone was that passionate about something it must be worth giving it a go.
So I joined in spring 2010 and went into the chorus of the show on my first term, which was ‘Under Milk Wood’. I was so surprised at how in Stage2 you are treated like professionals and how all the members were so nice and friendly.
After doing one show and getting the feeling of performing in a professional space, I decided that I wanted to be in the next show as well, where I had my first cast role as a poser in ‘Shakers’.
I then went on to be in a Claire Dowie premier of ‘Arsehammers’. Then I played the role of Abraham in ‘Romeo and Juliet’ which was amazing because me and George Hannigan (who played Balthasar) were given Mercutio and Benvolio’s ‘ruder’ lines, and we had a lot of fun!
After that I unfortunately didn’t get cast in ‘Our Day Out’ because I had to miss a week, so I decided that since I had been in the shows for one year, it would be worth trying out the workshops that Stage2 has to offer, so I am currently doing General Drama and the History of English Literature (through Brian Patten’s poem ‘A Fallible Lecture’).
During my time at Stage2 so far I have learnt so much and I have made so many friends. It is definitely one of the best things I have ever done. |
