It was pure fluke that my family and I visited the Link building on Arts Fest Weekend back in 2004, but as soon as I saw the Stage2 portfolios and met the friendly people there, I was glad that we did! I was blown away by the standard of costumes and sets in the photos but was even more surprised when I found out just how lovely and welcoming everyone was when I joined. I threw myself into the company straight away, my first show being as a chorus member – or ‘mariner’ – in The Tempest, which was a truly magical experience. The term after I had a small cast role in The Children’s Hour and since then I have been fortunate enough to have been given all kinds of diverse roles, from the innocent Hero in Much Ado About Nothing, to a vicious teacher in Teechers, to an autistic young girl in Spoonface Steinberg (along with 23 other people!), to a flirtatious fairy in A Midsummer Night’s Dream! Aside from shows, I’ve also tried to get involved in other areas, including outings, study days, LAMDA, backstage roles and joining the Fundraising Committee, all of which have been very useful in different ways. However, for me my most rewarding Stage2 experience has been being on the Mentor Scheme. I loved being a Mentor and learned so many skills including greater confidence, responsibility and teamwork and also really liked being able to help other company members and give something back to the company in this way. I soon will be joining the Trainee Tutor scheme and taking over the running of the Mentor Scheme in the new role of Mentor Manager. I am so grateful to Stage2 for giving me the opportunity to do this and just hope that I do a good job! |
