I wasn't at all interested in drama until doing a play in Year 8 at school. Then I really started enjoying it and applied for the National Youth Theatre (but unfortunately didn't get in) At my audition there were lots of leaflets for Stage2 so I picked one up and forgot about it for a few weeks. My friend started going to another Youth Theatre and was having a great time so I searched for the leaflet and joined Stage2 in the summer term of 2010.
I could see it was really different from school straight away because everyone is always included and there are no people who aren't friendly! My Mentor buddy was lovely and supporting for me. I joined the all day chorus of 'Shakers' - the summer play - and it was great fun, everyone always helps you out at Stage2 so there wasn't a moment when I had no idea what to do. Also I made lots of new friends really quickly so I felt comfortable.
In my second term I did the General Drama workshop and I was an assistant in Stage1 which was great! It built my confidence loads, which is an achievement since I always used to be very shy. The children in Stage1 were great to work with, as was Colin. Last term I did general drama again and the comedy workshop. The comedy workshop was interesting as we looked at loads of areas of comedy and worked with Janice Connolly - aka Barbara Nice. I haven't had time to start having LAMDA tuition yet but I may in the next few terms. Also I have been to a few of the Mentorvents - brilliant, fun events run by the mentors - and I can't wait for the next one!
This term I am in the cast for our summer musical 'Our Day Out' as a shopkeeper and in the chorus too. We are learning lots of songs and I can hardly wait to perform it on stage! As this is my first cast part I was expecting it to be scary but it isn't really. We work hard but we have lots of fun too!
Stage2 has really helped me and I'd like to see where I am in a few terms time! |
