I had always been interested in drama but I had never quite found a group that had completely satisfied me. Then, my parents showed me Stage2. I was immediately enthusiastic just by looking at the leaflets, so, in the spring term of 2008, I joined.
The second I arrived it made me feel as if I had found the right place, there were so many things you could do! That first term, I went straight into the chorus of Teechers and had great fun, learned loads and made loads of great friends. This was my first performance in a professional theatre and I loved it. I then went in to do the chorus of Lord of the Flies (I was going to audition but chickened out, big mistake!).
Then it was the first summer holidays and Stage2 was doing an “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” pretext workshop. I decided to give it a go despite knowing nothing about Shakespeare. I learnt so much that week it was impossible and, since the play looked like lots of fun, decided to try the auditions at the end of the week. When I got cast as Titania (the Queen of the Fairies) I was shocked but couldn’t wait to get going. That term I got to say my first speech on stage (before I got given the occasional word), worked with movement artists, period hairdressers, composers and even got a hired costume from the RSC!
From then on I didn’t look back, I auditioned for Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare, Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas, Arsehammers by Claire Dowie and most recently Romeo and Juliet also by Shakespeare, where, somehow, I managed to get the part of Juliet. This was completely mind blowing! This term I have learnt so much and have amazed myself at what I have been able to do. This I have to thank to the brilliant support Stage2 has given me all term and as production week approaches, and my nerves get higher and higher, I can’t wait to see what this term has yet to bring. |
