Information: Hey, I’m Emily Timms and am the current Head of the Stage2 Marketing Committee!
As part of Stage2's Big Lottery project, we have two different committees, one of these being Marketing. On the Marketing Committee you will learn about various different aspects of Marketing, be it for a youth theatre like Stage2, a commercial shop (like with our current marketing project in corroboration with Chatterbox Boutique in Kings Heath) or even man-made islands in Dubai (we had marketing guru Ben Fisher in for an interview!)
The best thing about the Stage2 Marketing Committee is that it provides a wealth of work experience for anyone with the passion, the drive and the curiosity to join in and share Stage2 with the rest of the world! Whether it’s designing our beautiful print, writing press releases for newspapers and magazine, making promotional clothing (such as the ‘I Love S2’ T-shirt!), or having a radio interview, members can carve their own niche as they do projects that really make a difference…and we are always open to members’ ideas for new ways to market our ever-evolving company!
When on the Marketing Committee you will have at least 2 meetings each term where you will learn professional meeting etiquette e.g. members are taught how to write formal minutes, and learn really useful Marketing tools along the way – you know your quality ‘stock’ and your Five P’s of Marketing by the time you’ve finished a term! We also get to interview real marketing experts from all around such as Rob Finnie, Director of Printing.Com, so we learn the tricks of the trade!
Outside of the meetings you are required to do some form of Marketing work for the company and you are able to choose what you want your task to be, also you don't have to work on your own, we can join you up in pairs or groups if that makes you feel more comfortable. Crucially, we are always behind our members 100% of the way, giving help and support to anyone who needs it! It doesn't matter what age you are or what experience you have (most people don't have any experience when they first join them) you can learn with people of different ages and experience and you will learn off each other and work together extremely well.
I joined the Marketing Committee because I thought that it would be an excellent way to put something back into the company that has given me so much, and I’m certainly glad that I did! I have learned so much, such as writing press releases, liaising with magazine editors and what makes effective print, but also I have learned so many transferable skills such as time management, personal organisation, being able to communicate effectively both on and off paper and needless to say, my confidence has greatly improved! All of these skills will serve me well for university and beyond!
So come and join in, get some brilliant REAL work experience and we’ll look forward to having you on the team!

Stage2 is an inspiration. The way it engages young people in drama through the sheer enjoyment of acting is a role model to which we should all aspire.
