Arts Award

Stage2 are delighted to be able to offer members the chance take part in Arts Award!

The Arts Award is a great opportunity for personalised learning and development in the arts. Participants set their own targets and areas of interest and are measured against their own levels of progress and achievement. The key requirements for the award are an interest in the arts and a desire to progress.

Award will be led by Andrea Dowsett (Stage2 Parent and Drama teacher) who is a qualified Arts Award advisor.  All work is tutor assessed and there is no examination.

If you wish to participate in the award, than you must stay behind at the Stage2 Introductory session to sign up and speak to Andrea about what you need to do to start off your award.

Participants will be expected to attend regular sessions before or after Stage2 on Saturdays  in order to plan, and  record the work for the award and for their tutor to monitor progress. The first session will take place during the afternoon of the introductory session. (Dates for introductory sessions can be found on various pieces of print and paperwork, i.e. Booking Form.)

The cost of the Award is £80.00 per term for Bronze and Silver levels and £95 per term for Gold. On top of this candidates will be expected to pay for the appropriate award handbook and moderation fees. The usual Stage2 Subsidy Policy applies. Places are limited so register your interest now. We do not recommend that people take a LAMDA exam and an Arts Award in the same term which is why the intro meetings are at the same time.

On average it takes one term to complete Bronze, two for silver and three for Gold.

In order for you to have some knowledge of what the award entails there is an outline below. Further information can be obtained form the Arts Award Website: www.artsaward.org.uk

Information

The Arts Award is a new accreditation which supports young artists and young arts leaders and leads to a nationally recognised qualification

The award is aimed at young people aged 11 to 25, who enjoy the arts.  Participants can choose their art form and make their own plans, including improving their skills, seeing the work of other artists and running their own arts project. They have to share their work with other people by recording what they do. It's up to them how they do that - writing, photos, video, sound recording, websites etc.

Candidates can do anything that counts as art! There is no time limit to the award, however they need to make it challenging but also realistic. They decide how long they want to take. Each pupil has an Arts Award adviser to support them. At Stage2 this is Andrea Dowsett. The advisor won't tell the candidates what to do, but will help candidates plan and work through the award. They can answer questions and give advice.

There are 3 levels of award – Bronze, Silver or Gold. You will be starting at bronze level, but can continue up the levels as you pass each one.

What is an Arts Award equivalent to?

The Arts Award is on the National Qualifications Framework and is accredited by QCA (Qualifications Curriculum Authority)

Bronze: Level 1 - working at the standard of GCSE D-G/NC levels 4 - 6
Silver: Level 2 – working at the standard of GCSE A* -C
Gold: Level 3 – working at the standard of A’ level

This does not mean that an Arts Award is equal in size to a GCSE or A’ level but it does mean that pupils will be working at and will be assessed at that standard.

The award qualifies for school and UCAS points.

For me Stage2 is more than just a theatre company, it is a community. It has given me a direction in life. A place in which for the first time I have felt truly accepted‚ A place in which I can honestly say I have had more wonderful moments in a year than I have had in my whole life.
