Information: The Fundraising Committee is yet a further way not only to get involved in Stage2 but also to gain fantastic and exciting work experience. The committee raises funds for numerous parts of Stage2; working through from finding potential funders and trusts to sending off applications. One of these areas is the subsidy policy which the committee has been very successful in raising money for, so that all members can take part in every area of Stage2 without financial difficulty. It also gives everyone the opportunity to learn new skills, from writing funding applications to learning how to do your own accounts! I joined the committee when I was fifteen and started off with smaller projects or helping other people with their projects. From there I have gained a whole host of skills, in writing applications and letters, planning packages and content of applications and the finding different sources of funds available. Being a member of the committee has also taught me a lot of administrative skills, such as writing minutes, proofing and producing copy. Now I am able to lead and undertake projects on my own. I have also been able to transfer a lot of the skills I have gained through to my school and college work, as well as budgeting for myself and applying for jobs. Being on the committee has definitely provided me with a new set of skills as well as confidence which will no doubt help me when applying to university and in the rest of my life. This is a brilliant way to learn things that you certainly don’t at school, as well as working in a team of friends to help a company you really care about.
Fundraising does require a lot of long-term commitment and work and meetings outside of normal Stage2 time but, if you are really determined and can give it your all then please sign up at the start of term.
