How do you choose the plays and productions?

Answer

We do a minimum of one show every term at a major City Centre venue, which any member can take part in. First and foremost we try to have a range ? ie comedies, tragedies, contemporaries, physical theatre, musicals, devised shows etc. and each show requires different skills to learn and develop eg accents, research into period/context, dance etc

We also like to do a large quota of set and classic texts as we believe this benefits members enormously ? helping directly with their exam work and indirectly with their confidence in all English and Drama lessons. It is also very useful for school parties who watch the show, as we make everything as clear and accessible as possible whilst keeping all of the original text. There are however always concepts and ?twists? to discuss and debate.

By varying the productions we also give all kids a chance to shine ? they may have a particular talent or a leaning towards a particular type of play. We also make sure there are opportunities for all ages, both sexes and varying degrees of talent or previous experience.

It is also hugely important to us that our productions give opportunities for extremely creative chorus work.

Plays can be requested by members at any time, by putting a note in the red box in reception ? all requests will be considered at length

For me, Stage2 is one of the most precious institutions Birmingham has got to offer, it is right up there together with the CBSO and the Birmingham Opera Company. Their productions are full of wit, invention, humour, surprise and great acting. Everybody is involved and committed, from main characters all the way to backstage helpers. We feel hugely privileged to be part of this community.
